Is there a Code of Conduct for the conference?
The Manitoba Libraries Association (MLA) is dedicated to providing a positive experience for Manitoba Libraries Conference (MLC) attendees, presenters, guests, and volunteers. Respect and courtesy towards one another is required at all times while attending the MLC, and all attendees are required to adhere to the following guidelines to ensure a safe and positive experience:
- Harassment is not tolerated in any form at MLC. This includes:
- Intimidation, stalking, and following.
- Verbal comments or non-verbal expressions related to gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religious beliefs.
- Verbal abuse.
- Harassment via photography or recording.
- Inappropriate physical contact.
- Unwelcome sexual attention.
- MLC promotes discussions on a wide range of topics presented respectfully and in a courteous manner. Comments and questions should be relevant to the session to which they refer. Individuals contributing to discussions in an inappropriate manner, including off-topic comments, personal attacks, or self-promotion, may be asked to cease participation.
- See the MLC 2025 – Social Media Policy for guidelines on appropriate behaviour on social media and virtual conference spaces.
If at any time, a conference attendee, presenter, guest, or volunteer feels that this Code of Conduct has been breached, this person must report it to an MLA volunteer or member of the Conference Planning Committee. They may also email office@mla.mb.ca with their concerns.
MLA reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the conference without warning or refund, in response to any incident of unacceptable behavior as outlined in this document. Additionally, MLA reserves the right to prohibit attendance at any future conference or event, virtually or in person.
Thank you to everyone for following these guidelines and for helping us to maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all. We value your attendance.
Is there a Social Media Policy for the conference?
The Manitoba Libraries Association encourages you to share your experience of the 2025 Manitoba Libraries Conference on your social media channels. Please keep in mind the following guidelines to ensure a memorable, safe, and positive experience for all conference attendees:
- Social media content (including posts, photographs, comments, and other forms of engagement) must convey respect, inclusivity, and support. This is to ensure a safe and productive environment for all conference volunteers, presenters, and attendees. Harassment, intimidation, and/or discrimination in any form will not be tolerated by the Manitoba Library Association.
- Please request permission from any conference attendees before photographing or sharing photographs of others in social media posts.
- We encourage presenters to include their social media handles and/or hashtags as part of their conference presentation.
- Please give proper credit to any presenters whose content is featured in your posts, including research, slides, and video/audio recordings. Presenters may also request that attendees refrain from posting or sharing any of their presentation content.
- Consider including the hashtag #MLC2025 in your posts and tagging the Manitoba Library Association so that conference attendees can see your content and network with you during and after the conference.
- Have a passion for content creation and communications? Consider volunteering your time to join the conference Communications Team and help us create posts for our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bluesky accounts.
While we aim to encourage content sharing and respectful online dialogue, MLA reserves the right to remove any conference-related posts or comments that we feel violate this policy at our discretion.
Thank you to everyone for following these guidelines and for helping us to maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all.
